Halloween Success

After a few crazy days getting ready and then sending the girls off to school- the door closed and I did a little victory boogie dance because I nailed Halloween.  The girls look awesome in their homemade costumes and we made 42 monster and mummy cupcakes for Aleah’s kindergarten class party.  Phew.

Along with all other kids in the universe they wanted to be characters from Frozen.  Aleah chose to be Anna, since she has red hair and all.  Sophie chose to be Elsa, since she has blonde hair =)

Here was one evening of working on the waistband for Aleah’s costume while Hudson needed in on the action:

It is a downright miracle that I had ALL the fabric I needed for Aleah’s costume right in my sewing room, score!

Sophie’s dress came from the Christmas dress I made for her last winter.  All I needed to do was sew on a mesh cape and she was good to go!  Oh yeah and I also made her a long braid too.

Hudson will be a tiger so he will be warm and especially since it was in our dress up clothes and I didn’t have time to make him an Olaf or Sven costume, sorry buddy.

Lake Jeanette Camping Part 2

I know this campout was a while ago but I have pictures from the weekend so why not do a blog post about it, right?

Camping is such a wonderful way to detach from reality and get in some real forced family activities, aka FFA =)

I love this picture of Jared and Hudson eating breakfast together as the sun is rising.

While Hudson took a morning tent nap, Jared took the girls out fishing and they caught two northerns.

While Jared was cleaning the fish, Sophie kept saying, “Dad!  You are being so mean.”  And then she would go on to make the northerns kiss each other and demand that Jared cut its eye out so she could play with it.  Yeah, she is one interesting little lady.

I bet you didn’t know a northern could be worn as a belt:

We had a delish lunch of fresh fish, thanks to the brave fishermen and ladies.

Sometime during that day Aleah took a three hour nap and boy was she a new person when she woke up.

We even got some “school” in as the girls learned the names of some tree and did leaf rubbings.

At the end of the day we climbed up a cool lookout spot and the girls found a tree that they scampered up as well.

I am sad that camping season is over but looking forward to future outings with my family.

The Magic Pattern Book Giveaway

I made a dress! Pretty excited about it too. The pattern for this dress came out of the book that was sent to me for FREE =) sometimes I love being a blogger. The general idea for this book is you can redo your wardrobe or at least 36 outfits based off of Amy Barickman’s 6 patterns.

I chose to make the Camilla:

Here is the finished product after a few nights of sewing in my living room watching some of my favorite DVRed shows.

Yeah I don’t know how to take these things seriously. Jared kept telling me to stop being awkward. Yeah, like that is going to happen when I am in a fancy dress with him taking pictures of me walking around, ha.

The one major problem I had with this book was the patterns were not included on that tissue paper like stuff. Instead it came with a CD were you had to print off the pattern. Doesn’t sound like a problem right? Wrong. I set the printer to print and then walked away. About ten minutes later I came back and it was STILL printing! It took 48 pages to print off the pattern. Holy moly. I cannot imagine doing that again for a different project I would want to do in the future. I think the CD is a good extra idea since the pattern tissue paper can get worn or torn after many uses, but it should not be the only option.

Oh yeah and this happened during the course of making the dress, arg.

Popsicle Recipe

I know we are headed out of popsicle season but since my kids love these so much we will be making them for a few more months.  I experimented with yogurt, fruit and different juices but this ended up being the biggest hit.

Get ready for a very complex and time demanding recipe:

2 cups orange juice

2 cups vanilla coconut milk

Mix these together and then pour into a popsicle holder or a cup with a stick taped to the middle.

I promise you, these will be a hit.  I believe these are the most delicious frozen treat I have ever tasted and the kids love them just as much as those sugar infused, dye loaded popsicles you can pick up at the grocery store.
